The 2020 ITS World Congress will launch the creation of the Emerging Leaders Program (ELP). The ELP strives to discover the “new age” of the transportation workforce by engaging students and developing young professionals globally to become involved in the field of mobility and transportation through competition and exposure. The program consists of the following three-part plan:

gLOBAL CHALLENGE

Designed for university students who hold an interest in mobility and technology, the Global Challenge recruits teams of students around the world to solve a mobility challenge in hopes of advancing to the final round in Los Angeles, California.

WHO: University students who have an interest in mobility and technology
WHAT: Teams of University students will be recruited from around the world to solve a realworld mobility challenge in a pre-event competition
WHEN: Pre-event competition will be held virtually during the 2019–2020 school year with three teams selected, one team each from the Americas, Europe and Asia-Pacific, to participate in the World Championship in Los Angeles.
WHERE: The final competition and educational programming will be held in Los Angeles, CA at the 2020 ITS World Congress


nATIONAL IMMERSION PROGRAM

The National Immersion Program serves as an opportunity for high school students to become exposed to the world of intelligent mobility with the possibility of furthering an education in the transportation field. After a problem-solving pre-competition, three teams will be selected to attend the ITS World Congress in Los Angeles to display their solutions and engage in educational programming and hands-on activities related to intelligent mobility.

WHO: High School Students in the U.S. who aspire further education in transportation and mobility
WHAT: Students will be challenged with a pre-event competition related to intelligent mobility
WHEN: Pre-event competition held during the 2019–2020 school year, final competition takes place during the ITS World Congress in Los Angeles
WHERE: The final competition and educational programming will be held in Los Angeles, CA at the 2020 ITS World Congress


lOCAL aWARENESS pROGRAM

The Local Awareness Program is designed to highlight the expanding scope of intelligent transportation and mobility. Geared to attract up to 1,000 high school students and their teachers from the Los Angeles Metropolitan area to the ITSWC for single-day programming on new mobility technologies and careers stemming from this growing field.
